Atop a grand escalator, we made our way through the ebony archway of Privé‘s 12,000 square foot nightclub. Once past the magnificent foyer, and down a breathtaking hallway to your right; you can’t help but to feel the subconscious sensation Privé invokes from within. Immediately, we were impressed by the Managerial and VIP staff, they exhibited a level of professionalism and class unrivaled in the industry. The security personnel remained unobtrusive but with a certain reassuring presence. This was one of those increasingly rare establishments where each employee was obviously working toward one common goal, a fundamental one, one that should be paramount to every nightclub- ensuring the satisfaction and enjoyment of each and every guest.

”Encompassed by the opulence that is Privé, and enjoying the main room’s DJ inspired atmosphere, we ordered a drink at one of the three full service bars. Extremely well made cocktails and spirits are served by an attentive and talented wait-staff. We watched as club goers moved to the DJ’s mix of house and hip-hop. The 350 square foot dance floor provides a more than an adequate surface area to satisfy the dancing mood. Privé boasts a spectacular audio system brought to life by a total of 16, 21” drivers, driven by 48,000 watts of “very real” premium power. We at SceneLasVegas, wanted to take the time to research the audio specifications here, as Privé is the first venue in Las Vegas to implement the Funktion One’s newest low frequency product, and the system is definitely a feet of engineering worth hearing. We made our way about the rest of the club, taking care to enjoy all that is offered to the senses. The Multi- tiered VIP, where European bottle service is available, is arranged in a stadium effect around the main room’s Brazilian cherry dance floor. There is also an area slightly recessed to the right (when looking at the DJ booth) for those in search of seating slightly more private. The VIP sections at Privé are as they claim- “designed with fun and function in mind.” If you continue through this venue’s clever layout to the left, you will find a second full service bar. This bar borders a hallway that will guide you to the exit, or back to the entrance, via a supremely tasteful smaller room. This room, equipped with its own DJ and plush seating, is the perfect spot to rejoin those you came with, or get to know those you’ve just met. Upon leaving Privé we realized this fairly new venue has far surpassed the majority in Vegas. A special thanks to Greg Jarmolowich, Jeff Kovatch, and Mason Thibodeau, not only for our all access visit, but for finally bringing this long awaited level of nightlife to the Las Vegas Scene. It is this kind of seamless operation and renowned environment that re-defines Vegas nightlife, and will continue to bring Privé, its staff, and creators, well deserved success for many years to come.

Every time we visit TAO, we are simply amazed by the sheer number of club goers it attracts. Granted, this venue is well marketed and intricate in design, but we saw nothing that would justify an average wait of around 2 hours for general admission and close to an hour for the VIP guest list. After verifying a one girl to one guy ratio (which Tao usually mandates for entry), the Scene crew entered this extremely busy “hotspot.” We were immediately disappointed by the entry point which had the feel of a “backdoor fire escape.” We found the doormen and security slightly rude, as a matter of fact, the only pleasant people we found on staff were a few ladies from the cocktail crew who were kind enough to pause and smile for a photo.

Upon entering, you are given two directions to choose from- either proceeding to the main room where you’ll find a large dance floor encompassed by multi-tiered VIP; first passing a smaller dance floor and full service bar to your right. Or, if you continue up the stairs to the third floor, you’ll find TAO BEACH. We strongly suggest that if you choose to subject yourself to this nightclub, you don’t stop until you reach the refreshing outdoors atop the indoor club. At least outdoors at TAO BEACH, the cool breeze and less intrusive atmosphere help drown out the fact that you just got done standing in line for two hours, shuffled through a stairwell, and shelled out $13 plus tip for a fairly weak drink. TAO BEACH just recently opened for the year and is a welcome addition to the TAO nightlife scene. It’s equipped with a DJ spinning poolside, lavish and comfortable cabanas, and a full service bar. You can relax under beautifully manicured palms and reserve bottle service here as well. We enjoyed our time at TAO BEACH, but dreaded the confusing maze of thousands of seemingly unsatisfied club goers we were sure to encounter on our way out. As we ventured to the exit we thought it would be humorous to time ourselves. We were familiar with the layout, and we wanted to see how long it would take to exit…Approximately 27 minutes!

TAO, like the Venetian, is an aesthetically pleasing establishment, packed full of grand artwork and artifacts, and showcases some very talented DJs and gorgeous dancers. However, we at Scene Las Vegas, have a few suggestions. Concentrate on the guests a little more. We understand your frustration having worked in the industry, but a little restraint and professionalism do go a long way. We witnessed someone being made fun of by security personnel in the stairwell for showing affection to what appeared to be his significant other. If you’re that bored, why don’t you pick up some of the empty cups and trash that litter the atmosphere you work in- much more productive than trying to humiliate a guest. Reduce the drink prices slightly, or simply make them better (as we found the mixed drinks poorly made). And third, do away with a few VIP tables that crowd where the masses are trying to walk. Finally we made it to the exit, more excited about picking our car up from Valet than dropping it off. This is the main reason we at Scene Las Vegas do what we do. With all the great night life Vegas has to offer, we hate to see you waste your time out at a club that just because of the hype you feel you “have” to see. TAO nightclub certainly has the potential to be, in our opinion a 5 star establishment, however, for your Saturday night we recommend one of the many alternatives.

Club Review: Studio 54 at MGM Grand

As we approached the ropes at approximately mid-night, it became clear that Studio 54 was going to be as impressive as our previous visits. Two lines wrapped around the wall that house this exciting venue. Thedifference that I immediately noticed was that 54 have now labeled their lines and re-entry points; nothing major just something that should be noted, so you don’t queue up in the wrong line. One of the main aspects of 54 that keep it on top is the Staff. With professional and polite Hosts and Wait staff our visits have always been effortlessly enjoyable. As we waited for the VIP host to confirm our name reservation, Mike Tyson and his entourage were escorted through the entrance. Its not uncommon with all the “fight nights”; boxing, UFC, etc. taking place at MGM; to see Celebs walking through 54’s doors. We entered the nightclub and stopped off at one of the four full service bars 54 offers. It was fairly busy and anxious clubbers were lined up about three deep waiting one their drink of choice. The talented bartenders made quick work of those waiting, as 54 has one of the shortest drink waits we’ve found regardless of how packed the club becomes. As the Scene crew enjoyed our drinks, we watched the captivated crowd move to the DJ inspired mood. Playing a wide range of hip hop, pop dance, and mixing in a few “throwback” beats; the DJ’s talent never ceases to amaze. Gorgeous Go-Go dancers, and versed entertainers easily captivated all who watched. We made our way upstairs to snap a few pictures in a slightly more laid back atmosphere. VIP tables circle, as if to encompass, the main floor’s lower level dance floor. The entertainment and dancing clubbers are easily viewed from this clever layout. The European bottle service is no exception to Studio 54’s 4 and ½ star rating given by SceneLasVegas.com; with very reasonable bottle prices and outstanding service. The wide range of ages which seem to be anywhere from 21- 35, all seemed to be very pleased with 54, as were we. We made one more lap through the venue, ensuring nothing was overlooked, taking a few more photos as we made our way to the exit. Studio 54’s staff and clientele have always been good to us. And each interview conducted with guests continues to convince us that this hotspot will continue to do well and draw a crowd for a long time to come. So if your looking for a great atmosphere, equipped with beautiful dancers and exciting entertainment, reasonable drink prices (rare in Vegas); and a large playful crowd then we at SceneLasVegas recommend you visit STUDIO 54.
